NONGSTOIN: One person identified as Gabriel Kharshandi of Porla Village in West Khasi Hills District was apprehended by the police on Sunday on charge of attempting to rape a five-year-old minor.
The incident took place on Sunday at Porla village near Porla Presbyterian Church, sources informed on Monday. They said that Kharshandi, after attending the church service at Porla, lured the minor girl to a lonely place and attempted to rape her.
Luckily, local residents caught him red-handed and handed him over to the police.
Meanwhile, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Mawshynrut Circle, has condemned the heinous attempt and urged the higher authorities to punish the culprit and not allow him to get out on bail.
KSU Mawshynrut circle president, Armstrong Sohshang, informed that the accused has been involved in a large number of heinous crimes and has become a threat to minor girls and women living in the area.
“Police have apprehended him so many times and recently he was released from jail, but once again he has attempted to commit the same crime,” said Sohshang, while demanding the strictest punishment for the serial offender.
