GNLA attacks Deborah case witness

SHILLONG: Suspected GNLA militants led by Jimmy, the area commander of Williamnagar, targeted a villager at Jangkegre village on Wednesday night on suspicion that he was one of the witnesses in the Deborah C Marak charge-sheet case. However, the victim managed to escape.

Informing this, IGP (Operations) GHP Raju said on Wednesday said that the victim escaped by jumping a wall.

According to police, the victim is a close aide of Jonathone Sangma, who filed FIR against Deborah and Tennydard for their alleged links with GNLA.

Raju said that the victim was made to kneel down by Jimmy and several shots were fired.

“But he escaped by jumping a wall and subsequently reported the matter to Williamnagar police. Thereafter he was sent to civil hospital for medical examination. He was treated for the injury he sustained in the knee while trying to flee,” the police official said.

Additional forces have been sent to his house to rescue his wife and children, the official added

Jongkegre village is near Nengmandalgre on the other side of Simsang river, Sohan Shira’s strong hold.

Raju said that the victim, who is undergoing treatment at civil hospital, Williamnagar knows Jimmy by face.
