Guwahati: Senior Congress legislator from Assam, Dr Himanta Bishwa Sarma who was in constant media glare last summer for daring to raise the banner of revolt against the three-time Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi demanding his removal on ground of ‘inefficiency’, is back in media focus once again for

his purported attempt to get into BJP’s fold.

It all started when a senior state BJP leader Pradyut Bora who in last Assembly election fighting

against Dr Sarma in Jalukbari legislative assem-bly constituency, revealed in the popular social networking site Facebook that Dr Sarma has been desperately trying to join the BJP in Assam and vigorously campaigning for it among the top-rung BJP leaders.

The disclosure by the BJP leader virtually stirred the proverbial hornet’s nest given that it was Dr Sarma who was instrumental in hijacking at least three BJP MLAs few years back to ensure defeat of a BJP-supported candidate, a media baron, in a Rajya Sabha election in the State ; it is the same Himanta Bishwa Sarma who during the electioneering in last Lok Sabha polls termed Narendra Modi a communal

leader and said that blood of Muslims flew through the streams in Gujarat ruled by Narendra Modi.

While Dr Sarma reacted by saying that he was not going to join the BJP said that he had once again been

made a victim of internal squabble in Congress.

He alleged that the Facebook disclosure by the BJP leader was engineered from within Congress to bring it to the notice of Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi that he was trying to the BJP.

He also took name of Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, son of Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi, saying that BJP leader Pradyut Bora is a friend of Gaurav Gogoi.
