TURA: In a shocking case of negligence by the MeECL, the villagers of Dambuk Wagekona in South Garo Hills are without power for almost four months due to the corporation’s failure to install a new transformer in place of the old one which was removed on July 18 after it developed a snag.
The village which falls under the jurisdiction of Rongara-Siju Constituency has been facing numerous problems due to the power crisis.
“Annual examinations for different classes will commence from November 17 but due to the problems of electricity students are unable prepare for their tests. The students of class X and XII also need to prepare for their examinations which will be held on February-March next year. They fear for their future as they are unable to prepare for their examinations in time,” a concerned parent lamented.
What is even more shocking is that when the villagers approached the concerned Department for help they were allegedly asked to pay a sum of Rs 30,000 for the reinstallation of a new transformer at the village. On expressing their inability to do so the villagers claimed they were asked to complain at the Williamnagar MeECL office.
