Williamnagar: Despite having travelled overnight from Shillong with a battery of legal eagles to fight her first case against allegations of nexus with militants and respond to a summon of the Judicial Court in Williamnagar, Social Welfare Minister, Deborah Ch Marak, exuded confidence on friday.
Brimming with self-confidence, she arrived at the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate shortly after 10:50am led by Meghalaya High Court lawyer Kaustav Paul and his two deputies.
Wearing a light cotton blouse and designer jeans, Deborah, accompanied by her husband, appeared at ease even as her lawyers got to work with her case.
“Being a law abiding citizen I have come to prove my innocence,” Deborah told The Shillong Times as she entered the court premises in Williamnagar.
The defence lawyer moved two petitions for Deborah which was accepted by the court.
Her advocate also moved a motion under Article 205 to abstain the Minister from attending further hearings unless deemed necessary by the court which was reportedly accepted by the court. Her lawyers are expected to hear the case out.
