Specially-abled, underprivileged kids celebrate Children’s Day

SHILLONG: On the occasion of Children’s Day on Friday, a programme was organised for specially-abled children of Asha School, Shillong, at Flag Staff House by Lt. Gen. S.P. Nawathe, GOC, 101 Area and Pratibha S. Nawathe, Regional President, AWWA, 101 Area.

The children took active part in games and group dance. A high tea was laid out on the occasion. The principal along with teachers and staff of the school joined the students to make the occasion a memorable event.

The AWWA President commended the Principal, Ipshita Ghosh, and staff for their efforts to nurture the specially-abled children and for putting up a remarkable show.

The Asha School Shillong was inaugurated in August 1998 within the premises of 58 Gorkha Training Centre at Happy Valley, Shillong.

Since then, the school has been successful in making a difference to the lives of many families with children having different abilities.

Shishu Shiksha Ghar celebrates Children’s Day

The children of Shishu Shiksha Ghar (SSG) participated in a series of programme organized for them on Children’s Day.

A get-together programme was organized at SSG Anjalee Centre in collaboration with the Chairperson of State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Meena Kharkongor. She addressed the children and informed them about the essence of the day. Kharkongor also spoke to the children about values thereby encouraging them to lead a righteous life and become an important citizen of the country. Cultural activities were performed by the children on the occasion. Meanwhile, members from the Inner Wheel Club, Shillong visited the SSG Mawiong Centre and distributed food items and gifts to the children.

Also, children from Anjalee and Mawiong SSG centres participated in a programme organized by North East Domestic Workers’ Movement in collaboration with NYK Shillong on the theme ‘Museum and Science: Educating the underprivileged children’.

A programme was organized at Youth Hotel after which the children were taken to Don Bosco Museum for an exposure visit.
