6 held for killing minor boy, one booked for cannibalism

Nagpur:In a suspected case of human sacrifice, a nine-year-old boy was allegedly killed and then cannibalised during a ritual to find hidden treasure in Maharashtra’s Wardha district, police said on Monday. Six persons, including the main accused Munna Pathan (47), were arrested in this connection yesterday, an official at Wardha police station said. The boy, identified as Rupesh Mule, had gone missing last week, but the gruesome murder came to light recently when the accused were caught, he said. Pathan had taken a farm on rent in Deoli village of the district. Sometime back, he performed a ritual there with the others accused – Uttam Pohane (43), Ankush Giri (18), Suresh Dhanore (45), Dilip Bhoge (37) and Dilip Khankar (34) – to dig up hidden treasure.  (PTI)

Powerloom worker gets three years jail in assault case

Thane:A 45-year-old powerloom worker has been sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment by a court here on charges of assaulting his co-worker, whom his wife had married after their divorce, in 2012. Additional sessions judge M M Walimohammed held accused Mohammed Baccha Ansari from Bhiwandi guilty on Saturday under section 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapon) of the IPC and imposed a fine of Rs 500 on him. In his submission, DGP R J Kadri told the court that the victim Ilias Karim Ansari (40) was the second husband of the wife of the accused. But after the couple came together again as per Islamic Sharia (Halala Nikah), Karim used to frequent the woman which annoyed Mohammed.(PTI)

Senior Bank official leaps to death in Cooum river

Chennai:A senior official of the public sector Indian Bank committed suicide by jumping into the Cooum river in the city on Sunday and after marathon efforts, the body was fished out by firemen on Monday morning. Police sources said, Radhamani (52), working as a Senior Manager in the Royapettah Branch of the Bank, was travelling with his daughter, a college student, in a two-wheeler.When they came near the Kotturpuram bridge, a wordy duel seemed to have ensued between them.Suddenly, an upset Radhamani, walked upto the bridge, climbed on the railings and jumped into the Cooum river, much to the shocking of his daughter and passersby. Acting on information, a team of fire service and rescue personnel rushed to the spot and launched search operations in the river. The search continued late in the night.(UNI)

2 dead, 2 injured as three vehicles collide in Sangli

Maharashtra:Two people were killed and as many injured in a three-vehicle collision on the Tasgaon-Karad road near Kundal village in Palus tehsil of the district on Sunday night.According to Kundal police, drunk driver of a speeding Bolero pick-up van lost control over the vehicle and collided with a tractor coming from the opposite direction and then hit a roadside tree.Police have identified the deceased as Mahadev Kisan Kachare (47), a rickshaw driver, resident at Sandgewadi; and Shivaji Gopinath Buchade (55) of Palus.The injured were identified as Vishal Ravsaheb Devkule (30) of Sandgewadi and Bolero driver Sandeep Nangare.(UNI)
