Mizoram seeks banning of HPC(D)

Aizawl:Mizoram government has asked the Union Home Ministry to declare Manipur-based H Zosangbera faction of Hmar People’s Convention-Democrats as unlawful organisation. State Home Minister R Lalzirliana, in a written reply to a question from Opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) member Lalruatkima, on Monday said the government has asked the Centre to outlaw HPC(D) under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, 1967. Lalzirliana said HPC(D) faction led by its chairman Zosangbera and ‘Army Chief’ Lalropuia has been indulging in illegal activities including abduction, ambush, bomb blast, and extortion inside Mizoram. The two were arrested by state police and later released on bail, he said, adding, warrants of arrest have been issued against them as they have never appeared before the court here despite several summons. The peace talks between the state government and the HPC(D) delegation failed in the later part of 2013 over extension of suspension of operations and upgradation of the talks from official to political level. 3 die and 18 others injured in accident

Agartala:At least three people were killed and 16 others injured when two speeding passenger jeeps collided at Aralia in Sipahijala district, about 25 km from here, the police said on Monday. IG, Police Control, Nepal Das said, “Two speeding jeeps from opposite directions collided last evening in which one person died on the spot and 18 others were injured. Two other injured people died of their injuries at Agartala Government Medical College here late last night.” The condition of the ten injured are stated to be serious. The police seized both the vehicles but the drivers have been absconding.(PTI)

Suspected brown sugar worth Rs 1crore seized

Diphu:Suspected brown sugar worth Rs one crore was seized from the possession of a person in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district along the interstate border with Nagaland, a senior police officer said on Monday.The suspected psychotropic drug was brought by the person identified as Mohammed Riajuddin travelling in a long distance night bus from Dimapur in Nagaland to Guwahati last night, according to district Superintendent of Police Mukdhajyoti Mahanta on Monday. Riajuddin, a resident of Moijing village under Thoubal police station in Manipur was nabbed at Khatkhati Naka Point, Mahanta said. Investigations were on and tests would be conducted for ascertaining the drugs. (PTI)

Kidnapped youths return

Agartala:Two tribal youths, who were kidnapped from Gandacherra subdivision of Dhalai district by insurgents of the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) have returned unharmed, the police said on Monday. Udairam Reang, who was kidnapped by insurgents on August 9 last when he was working in his field at the tribal hamlet of Joychandrapara near the Indo-Bangla border, returned unharmed yesterday, S P Police Control Uttam Bhaumick said. Another tribal, Birendra Tripura who was kidnapped by the same insurgent group from Girachandrapara on October 1 last also returned unharmed yesterday, Bhaumick said. (PTI)

Arunachal minister calls upon teaching community

Itanagar:Arunachal Pradesh Education Minister Tapang Taloh has exhorted the teaching community to join hands for improving the dismal education scenario of the state. “The education department is revamping the state’s ailing education system, and the teaching community should join hands in fulfilling the duties entrusted to them,” he said at the Kaying government higher secondary school in West Siang district on Sunday. The minister later upgraded the town primary school here to upper primary standard. He also inspected the upper primary school at PI Colony, Pobdi secondary school, Kamba GHSS, and Kerang middle school. The creation of Kaying circle as independent ADC (autonomous district) headquarters in principle, and Siang district, is a milestone for the people of the Adi belt, Taloh said.(PTI)

Mild quake hits Manipur

New Delhi: mild quake, with a magnitude of 4.0 on the Richter scale, hit Manipur in the wee hours on Monday, an India Meteorological Department report said here.The quake, that struck at 0203 hrs, was epicentred at 24.2 degrees north Latitude and 93.7 degrees East Longitude with a focal depth of 33 km. No loss of life or damage to property has been reported. (UNI)
