SHILLONG: Reacting to the allegations of pollution as alleged by the Garo Students’ Union, Ri Bhoi unit, the management of CMJ Breweries on Wednesday clarified that their Unit is being set up with the latest technology available in terms of air/noise/water pollution controls.
Rohit Jain, Chairman and Managing Director, CMJ Breweries said the Management is spending crores to adhere to strict environmental norms and to have zero discharge once the technology is ready.
“It is advisable to understand that our discharge at the moment is pure cattle/poultry/fish feed with high protein etc., in semi liquid form with high value and hence wrong conclusions are being derived just on the face value. Lagoons etc., are created to ensure all protection to soil. The dryer and other machinery are in process of being installed to produce dry form of cattle feed and hence our plant will have no discharge in any form,” Jain said adding that the Company has installed the best effluent treatment plant and the treated water will be recycled within the premises for plants/greenery and other general use.”
He also stated that the best of ESP has been installed for almost smokeless chimney and latest noise control safeguards have been utilised in the factory.
Jain said that this is the first of its kind industry in the entire NE region which has been acclaimed by one and all from India and abroad and is the pride of Meghalaya. This unit would provide hundreds of local jobs directly and hence needs encouragement rather than unbridled criticism based on wrong  assumptions.
“The management firmly believes in safeguarding Mother Nature and has taken all steps as required under the law and beyond. It may be noted that the set up would be ready in all aspects in the coming 3/4 months and hence wrong conclusions should not be arrived at, at this stage,” Jain added.
