Shillong: The proscribed HNLC has appealed to the state government to appoint an interlocutor to start the peace process.

“The government should announce the name of the interlocutor appointed to start the peace process without any hindrances as early as possible so as to avoid any misunderstandings in the peace process,” the HNLC Spokesman Saiñkupar Nongtraw said on Thursday.

“We are ready to negotiate, because a political solution has always been our banner and that of our movement,” he added.

Moreover, Nongtraw said the ‘existing problem’ between the HNLC and the government could be sorted out through political dialogue and not through military action.

Compensation demanded :The HNLC also asked the Government to provide adequate compensation to the families of Derestmon Siangshai (23) and Setlang Phawa (36) of Wapungskur village who were shot dead during a firing incident took place at Mookhep village over the issue of NGT ban on coal mining

The HNLC said that the magisterial probe would give a clean chit to the police officials responsible for the murder.

“The HNLC supports the demand of the Dorbar Shnong Wapungskur to pay compensation of Rs.10,00,000 each to the next of kin of these two people who have died besides providing jobs to at least one member of their families and taking care of the educational needs of all of Setlang Phawa’s eight children till they reach the age of 18”
