1200 students in Ri Bhoi get M-Tabs

NONGPOH: Over 1200 Class XII students of 11 schools from different parts of Ri Bhoi district were presented with M-Tab computers under the Students’ Digital Learning Aid Scheme launched by Chief Minister Mukul Sangma.

The programme was organised by the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi, at Nongpoh Indoor Stadium on Thursday.

The M-Tabs were handed over to the students by Chief Adviser to the State Government and Nongpoh MLA, D.D Lapang, in the presence of Health & Family Welfare Minister, A.L Hek, Deputy Commissioner, Pooja Pandey, District Planning Officer, P.S. Kharkongor and other dignitaries.

The office of the Deputy Commissioner also distributed traditional instruments and traditional dresses to different schools of the district.

Condemnation over assault on Rangbah Shnong

Shillong: The Dorbar Shnong Nongrim Hills has condemned the cowardly act of Alaric Kharkongor of Madanryting, Wanbok Lyngdoh of Saw Lad Demthring, Kevi Angami, Thecamo Lotha and Bebedo Sangtam for physically assaulting the Rangbah Shnong of Nongrim Hills on the evening of November 19 when he objected to their creating nuisance and disharmony in the locality by openly drinking in a public place. An FIR has been filed with the Police.

The Dorbar has also issued a stern warning to all, to abstain from creating any such nuisance in the locality.

Online passport application process launched

SHILLONG: The Passport Seva Kendra, Shillong has informed that the office has started processing passport applications for normal category. The online application and online payment of fees is compulsory throughout the country. The online application can be done through the office website www.passportindia.gov.in.

The normal fees for different categories of applications are Rs.1500 for adult, Rs.1000 for minor (five years validity) and Rs.2000 for tatkal service in addition to normal fees.

Only emergency or medical cases and pre-approved categories may visit the Passport Kendra without appointment.

Minor applicants below four years of age need to carry a recent coloured passport size (4.5×3.5 cm) photograph with a white background while visiting the Passport Seva Kendra.

Other applicants need not carry any photograph as the photograph will be captured at the Passport Seva Kendra.

Resubmission of application form is required in case the applicant does not visit the Passport Seva Kendra within 90 days from the online form submission.

The Passport Seva Kendra, Shillong has urged the applicants not to approach touts or pay more than the prescribed charge.

Online application for JEE (Main) Examination

Shillong: The Director of Higher and Technical Education, Meghalaya, has informed that with regards to the upcoming JEE (Main) Examination, all aspiring candidates who wish to pursue studies in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Pharmacy may apply online through the website: www.jeemain.nic.in.

The online application process which started on November 7 will continue till December 18.

The eligibility criteria for both JEE (Main) and JEE (Advanced) are different and the candidates are advised to read the information bulletin carefully and ensure their eligibility as per the criteria laid down for JEE (Main) and JEE (Advanced) Examinations, the notification said.

B.K. Bajoria School, Shillong has been designated as the Facilitation Centre for Meghalaya by the JEE (Main) Secretariat to help the candidates in filling up of the online application without any charge.

Folk Dance and Song Competition

JOWAI: As part of the 100 days festival of Meghalaya, the office of the Soil & Water Conservation and Territorial & Cash Crop, West Jaintia Hills District, jointly organized an Inter-village Folk Dance and Folk Song competition for villages falling under different watershed project areas at District Library Auditorium, Jowai on Thursday.

Deputy Chief Minister R.C. Laloo was the chief guest which Acting DC D.M. Wahlang was the guest of honour.

Director, Soil & Water Conservation, D. Langstieh and Joint Director W. Rymbai were also present besides officers and staffs of the department

Prizes were later distributed to the winners by the Deputy Chief Minister.

Awards were also given to farmers falling under Integrated Watershed Management Project. Basil Suchiang was awarded for his integrated system of farming while Ebanjelis Lathong was awarded for promoting Agro-Horticulture.

Winners of the Folk Dance competition, Raliang Khliehmansar, Shangpung and Saipung villages were awarded cash prizes of Rs.10,000, Rs.6000 and Rs.3000 respectively. Winners of the Folk Song competition, Shangpung, Sabahmuswang and Mooshrot villages were awarded cash prizes of Rs.7000, Rs.5000 and Rs.3000 respectively.

All India cooperative week concludes

JOWAI: The week-long celebration of the 61st All India Cooperative Week organized by the Cooperation Department, Shillong along with the State Level Cooperation Federation, Jowai, on the theme ‘Cooperative Model for Sustainable and Inclusive Growth’ with the topic of the day ‘Strengthening Members Service and Participation’, drew to a close here on Thursday.

Minister in- charge Cooperation Department, H.D.R. Lyngdoh, was the chief guest at the closing function while Parliamentary Secretary in charge Cooperation Department, S. Mukhim, was the guest of honour.

Acting Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills, D.M. Wahlang, Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Shillong, B.D.R Tiwari, senior cooperative members, dignitaries, cooperators and local residents were also present on the occasion.

Lyngdoh also inaugurated an exhibition cum sale of the cooperative society’s products.
