Gogoi makes light of Congress fence sitters

Guwahati: In the wake of a BJP MLA, Jadav Deka, revealed that that about 20 ruling Congress MLAs were eye greener pastures in the BJP, chief minister Tarun Gogoi said he would not be bothered by what ‘an MLA from BJP’ said and that Congress was quite comfortable as on date.

“No real Congressman can join the BJP. I don’t think any Congress man who has firm belief in the ideology and tradition of Assam will join the BJP,” Gogoi said trying to make light of what the BJP MLA claim.

The BJP MLAs claim assumed significant after another senior BJP leader and the party’s one of the

national executive members, Pradyut Bora spilling the beans that Assam Cong-ress’ rebel leader and former minister Dr Himanta Bishwa Sarma who had quit the present ministry expressing dissatisfaction over ineffi-cient leadership of chief minister Tarun Gogoi, had been trying to join the BJP along with some other party MLAs loyal to him.

The BJP MLA further claimed that the Central leadership of the BJP had called Assam BJP president

Siddhartha Bhattacharjya, senior general secretary Bijoy Gupta to meet the party president Amit Shah and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the event of many MLAs from Assam from different parties involving the Congress expressing desire to join ranks of the BJP.

Regarding the develop-ment Assam BJP president Siddhartha Bhattacharjya who was recently hand-picked by Amit Shah as Assam BJP’s chief, stated that BJP was open to welcome all those who want to join the party for its ideology, principles and the constitution.

“But those who want to come to the BJP which is now on the high tide, at this juncture with an oppor-tunistic intention of getting a party ticket to contest the next Assembly election, should not come,” he said.

Meanwhile, a section of Congress leaders said that Congress would not at all be harmed if a rebel and controversial leader like Dr Sharma who has fallen from grace of the party high command after raising the banner of revolt against Tarun Gogoi, the three-time chief minister.

However, Dr Sharma as on date claimed that he was not joining the BJP.
