After protests, 20 held for alleged assault on teacher

Chennai:Twenty persons have been arrested for allegedly assaulting a school teacher here who had reportedly beaten up a student, police said on Friday. S Baskar, a physical education teacher with a private matriculation school here, was allegedly thrashed by a mob on Thursday. The attack followed alleged beating of a class eight student by Baskar which was, however, denied by the school administration. Following this a protest was held late on Thursday and on Friday both parents and teachers demanding action against those who allegedly assaulted the teacher. “We have arrested 20 persons for allegedly assaulting the teacher,” Kodambakkam Police Inspector D Gowthaman told PTI. As regards the allegation that the boy was beaten up, police said it will be probed by school education authorities. Government Rajiv Gandhi General Hospital Dean Dr R Vimala said the condition of the teacher, who is being treated at the hospital, is stable. (PTI)

Youth arrested for misbehaving with woman police officer

Meerut:A youth has been arrested for allegedly misbehaving with a woman police officer here, police said on Friday. Sunil Pandey, working as a clerk with Chaudhary Charan Singh University was arrested Thursday for misbehaving with the area Circle officer while protesting outside the collectorate, Iqbal Ahmed Kalim, Inspector, Civil Line said. The incident occurred when the woman officer had gone to control the crowd at the protest site, he said. On the basis of a complaint filed by the lady officer, Civil Lines police arrested accused Sunil Pandey who along with his colleagues had gone to submit a memorandum to the District Magistrate over issues at the university, police said. A case has been filed against the accused under various sections of IPC, Kalim said.  Pandey said that he had apologised to the officer, police said. (PTI)

Youth booked for raping woman on false marriage promise

Baghpat:A 35-year-old widow has lodged a complaint against a youth for allegedly raping her for two years on a false promise of marrying her. Police said that a case of rape has been lodged on the basis of the complaint of the woman in which she has alleged that the accused entered into a relationship after her husband’s demise on a pretext of marrying her. The woman, hailing from Mubarikpur village under Khakhra police station area, approached the village panchayat after the youth didn’t live up to his words of marrying her even after two years. However, she alleged that the accused fled the village before the panchayat could take any action. Police said that efforts were on to nab the accused. (PTI)

Charge sheet against BJP leader in cheating case

Muzaffarnagar:A charge sheet has been filed against two people including a BJP leader in an alleged cheating case here, police said on Friday. A charge-sheet was filed against Pras Jain, BJP leader and chairman of Khautauli municipal council yesterday for submitting forged birth certificate during the municipal elections in 2012, Sunil Tyagi, SHO, Katoli police station said. A K Rai, then Chief Executive Officer was also charge-sheeted in the case for helping the BJP leader, he said. The charge-sheet has been filed under sections 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of security) and 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) of the IPC, Tyagi said. The case was filed on the complaint of Congress candidate Izhar Ahmad, police said. (PTI)
