SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Mine Owners’ and Exporters’ Association has urged the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council to put a restriction on issue of trading licenses to non locals and outstation companies without proper verification and authentication of the documents submitted for obtaining trading licenses within the jurisdiction of the Council.

In a memorandum submitted to KHADC CEM Adelbert Nongrum, the Association urged the KHADC to strictly prohibit Benami transaction since many non-local people were operating coal businesses in the name of locals.

The Association also asked the Council not to entertain NOCs issued rampantly by the Sordar or any self proclaimed individual particularly from the coal belts of South West Khasi Hills without proper verification of the authority.
