New cattle market inaugurated

NONGPOH: The Deputy Chief executive member of Khasi Hills District Autonomous Council Teinwell Dkhar on Saturday inaugurated the new cattle market at Ronghana village in Byrnihat of Ri-Bhoi district.

Dkhar graced the inaugural function as chief guest while the Executive member and in-charge of market and also MDC of Umsning, Donkupar Sumer as the guest of honour.

Other who were present in the inaugural function were Executive Member KHADC and in charge Law, Rona Khymdeit,, Raid Nongkylla Market Committee chairman C.B Syiem, Secretary Rayonald Kharkamni, cattle suppliers and the representatives of All Assam Cattle Welfare organization and All Khasi Jaintia Butchers Association.

The state at present have only one popular cattle market located at Khanapara, but in order to impart the spirit of competition among the traders and suppliers of cattle, the new cattle market at Ronghana, Byrnihat was inaugurated which was run by the Raid Nongkylla Market Committee.

Addressing the inaugural function as chief guest, Teinwell Dkhar lauded the initiative taken by the Raid Nongkylla Market Committee to open one more cattle market at Ri-Bhoi.

“This new cattle market being set up at Ronghana under Byrnihat is no way a threat to the existing cattle market at Khanapara, but the KHADC granted the permission for the new market to boost the economic condition of the unemployment people through trade and commerce” Dkhar said.

 To make the cattle market functional , Dkhar asked the cattle suppliers and the market committee to work together so that the meat-eating population of Meghalaya will get enough supply of meat in the state, he added.

Others who spoke on the occasion included Sumer, Khymdeit, Kharkamni.

The meeting was presided over by Syiem.
