NONGSTOIN: The KSU’s South West Khasi Hills unit has called for a night road blockade on November 27 and 28 protesting the state government’s decision to scrap the 40km road project from Weiloi to Rangblang.

The night road blockade will be effective from 7pm to 5am (each night).

Announcing the decision after a meeting on Saturday, the KSU unit’s general secretary Forwardman Nongrem came down heavily on the Chief Minister for scrapping the project.

The road, which was scheduled to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs.27 crore, is one of the 45 projects under Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR). It was scrapped last year based on the recommendation of the Chief Minister in the 118th meeting of NLCPR committee, Nongrem said.

The two night road blockade will affect only in South West Khasi Hills and some parts of East Khasi Hills under Mawsynram C&RD Block.

The students’ body will decide its future course of action after November 28.
