SHILLONG: The Government has scrapped the controversial ender for 2014-2015 floated by CEO of Tura Municipal Board to operate toll gates.

In reply to a question raised by John Leslee Sangma (Ind), the Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh told the Assembly on Monday that there were anomalies in the floating of tender since the CEO did not take necessary permission.

“We regret what happened. We wanted to regularize the entire process and all standard procedures and rules will be followed”, she said in reply to supplementary questions of Clifford Marak (GNC) and Saleng Sangma( Ind)

She said that after the tender for 2014-15 was cancelled, the toll collection was stopped since October 1.

As per earlier reports, the purpose of the tender, issued on August 21 this year, was that Tura Municipal Board, in order to generate revenue in the interest of the public and various civic amenities within the municipality area wanted to continue toll collection from commercial vehicles through a lessee at the existing routes for a period of 12 months.

There were also news reports that the CEO failed to take permission from the authorities concerned before calling tender which ultimately resulted in the cancellation.
