SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has indicated he will effect a reshuffle of the Cabinet in the early part of next year.

Speaking to reporters here on Monday, Sangma said, “There may be reshuffling of portfolios. There may be some minor reshuffling because we have a lot of competent people”.

Sangma also refused to divulge any information on his Delhi trip by saying that it was a private visit.

He, however, added that he was in touch with the AICC leaders and apprised them about the resignation of Warjri.

To a question on whether Warjri would reconsider her decision, the Chief Minister said that Warjri had also conveyed to him that she wanted to go for medical treatment since she was not keeping well.

The Chief Minister also said that he was yet to accept the resignation of Warjri .

The Chief Minister will hold the home portfolio time being.

Commenting on the possible reshuffle, the Chief Minister said that since the Government did not even complete two years, there is a need to give more time to all the ministers since certain initiatives and programmes have already been rolled out.

According to the Chief Minister, he wanted most of his cabinet colleagues to be in a position to give more time to their respective departments and give directions.

Attacks Donkupar: Meanwhile, Sangma slammed the Opposition leader Donkupar Roy for the latter’s recent statement that the Chief Minister should own moral responsibility and resign instead of Home Minister Roshan Warjri.

Reacting to the demand of the Opposition, Sangma said, ” They (Opposition ) are missing the focus. Does he (Roy) have the magic wand to solve all the problems”.

Warjri had cited the worsening law and order situation and mindless killing by the militants in Garo Hills as the reason for her resignation.
