SHILLONG: A Nigerian national has been arrested in New Delhi for duping a city-based woman of Rs 12 lakh rupees after befriending her on social networking site Facebook.

Informing this here on Monday, East Khasi Hills district police chief M Kharkrang said that police acted on the basis of an FIR lodged by a lady from Mawlai — Kynton Massar.

The victim had befriended one Eric Jack from UK. During the period Jack promised her some parcels containing valuables and 10,000 Pounds, Kharkrang said.

Later, she received a call from a courier company and also from other agencies demanding her to deposit money to obtain the parcels and money, he said.

The woman deposited Rs 12 lakh in different account numbers provided to obtain her gifts and more money.

When asked to deposit more, she realized she had been fooled and informed the police, the SP said.

Taking cognizance of the complaint, a team led by Inspector DB Lamare, O/C Mawlai PS and Inspector B.K. Mishra, O/C Laban PS immediately left for New Delhi and they managed to track the money trail to one Nigerian national identified as Chazurike Uche Click of Tigri, T.Point, New Delhi .

Click was arrested from Tigri T Point in the national capital and was brought to Shillong on a transit remand on Monday.

Later, he was produced before a local court which remanded him to five days of police custody.
