One Direction, Katy Perry win big at American Music Awards

British boy band One Direction and Pop star Katy Perry   were big winners at the American Music Awards (AMA’s), with both winning three top honours. Perry, 30, beat rapper Iggy Azalea and Lorde to win the award for favourite female artist in the Pop/Rock category.
The singer also bagged the trophy for the single of the year for her song ‘Dark Horse’ featuring Juicy J and won the favourite artist in the category of Adult Contemporary.
One Direc-tion was declared as the artist of the year and bagged the trophy for favourite album for ‘Midnight Memories’.
The group were also named as the favourite band in Pop/Rock category, according to Hollywood Reporter. Azalea, 24, won the honour of favourite artist in Rap/Hip-Hop category, beating the likes of Drake and Eminem.
The rapper’s ‘New Classic’ was the favourite Rap/Hip-Hop album. Favourite male artist award went to John Legend. Sam Smith received the award for favourite male artist in the Pop/Rock category.
The award for new artist of the year was bagged by rock band 5 Seconds of Summer. Singer Luke Bryan won the favourite male artist for country music.
Beyonce won two honours, including favou-rite female artist in soul/R&B category and favourite soul/R&B album for her ‘Beyonce’. Disney’s ‘Frozen’ received the award for best soundtrack. Ima-gine Drag-ons was declared the favou-rite artist for alternative rock. Enrique Iglesias bagged the award for favourite artist Latin music.(PTI)
