SHILLONG: Irked by the continuous allegations of having nexus with ANVC-B, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Tuesday dumped such allegations as “unsubstantiated and wild” and asked Opposition to refrain from smear campaigns.
Replying to a motion moved by NPP leader James Sangma on the criminalization of politics taking place in Meghalaya, Mukul Sangma said in the Assembly on Tuesday that “the Chief Minister is alleged of having links with militants after an email was sent by one Ajaju” even as he added that ANVC-B chairman later clarified that mail was sent by ANVC deserter and these allegations have been picked up by Opposition for smear campaign. “Moreover, friends from abroad told me that the statement that Chief Minister is the chairman of all militant outfits is all there in the internet which prompted me to take judicial intervention,” he said.
Sangma said that Congress party has vibrant mechanism to elect the Chief Minister and Congress High Command does not get dictated by militants, while adding that when he doest not give audience to militants ,then they start making wild allegations.
Stating that criminalization of politics must be looked from a broader perspective, the Chief Minister said that the all the 60 MLAs have to lead by example in this regard and added that inciting communal and racial sentiments is also a form of criminalization of politics.
Commenting on the petition of Opposition to the President and Prime Minister alleging nexus between Chief Minster and ANVC-B, Sangma said that the President and Prime Minister are well fed about the activities of other politicians and Chief Minister.
“Prime Minister must have thrown the memorandum in the dustbin and that’s what has happened,” he said.
It may be mentioned that the Opposition last year had submitted a memorandum to the Former Prime Minister alleging nexus between Mukul Sangma and ANVC-B.
“The allegation is that Dr Sangma became CM with the support of ANVC-B.” Chief Minister said adding that he wanted to know which MLA was approached by ANVC-B to support his cause.
He also informed that the State has been able to get the attention of the Central Government with regards to law and order problems in Meghalaya and the region and hence the Prime Minister has called a meeting on November 30 in Guwahati to discuss the overall law and order situation in the region.
