SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Tuesday disclosed that he had been a victim of militancy in the run up to the Assembly elections in 2003 when he had contested from Ampati.
During his reply in the Assembly on the issue of criminalization of politics, the Chief Minister recalled that his supporters had been attacked during an election rally in 2003.
He said that his rival party had fielded a candidate who was the brother-in-law of the commander-in-chief of the ANVC.
Stating that one of his workers was killed in Ampati, Sangma added that even his Block Congress Committee workers had been assaulted during a rally.
“My party worker from Mahila Block Congress Committee who was 70-years-old was also killed,” he said.
