RS member KTS Tulsi adopts a Ri-Bhoi village

SHILLONG: The State government has adopted four backward villages to develop them as model villages under Saansad Adrash Gram Yojana (SAGY), a scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 11

Informing this here on Tuesday, Community and Rural Development Minister Prestone Tynsong informed that the four villages have been adopted as per the recommendations of the three MPs from the State and nominated Rajya Sabha member KTS Tulsi.

According to Tynsong, Shillong Lok Sabha member Vincent H Pala recommended Lakadong-Shangpung village under Laskeiñ Community to be covered under the SAGY while Tura MP Purno Agitok Sangma selected Dingok-Chenggalma village in North Garo Hills for implementation of this Central-government sponsored scheme.

At the same time, he said that Rajya Sabha MP from the State Wansuk Syiem has identified Umkhoi village under Mawkynrew C&RD Block in East Khasi Hills.

Tynsong informed that Tulsi had also accepted his request to adopt Nongbah-Myrdon village under Umsning C & RD Block in Ri-Bhoi district.

“I appreciate the decision of the nominated Rajya Sabha member to accept his request. It is really a great gesture on his part,” he said.

The Community and Rural Development Minister informed that the respective Deputy Commissioners will have to constitute a monitoring committee with the respective block development officer as the charge officer for implementing the SAGY in the selected villages after the selection of the villages by the MPs.

“The committee will have to come up with the action plan for implementing various programmes in the selected villages and by June 2015, the scheme should take off,” Tynsong said, adding that by 2016, one village will be developed into model village by the MPs, and by 2019, two more villages will be taken up.
