SHILLONG: A joint delegation of nine pressure groups from Jaintia Hills, which wanted to meet the Chief Minister Mukul Sangma to know the outcome of the magisterial inquiry into Mookhep firing incident, have expressed their disappointment after the Chief Minister failed to meet them at Secretariat even after giving an appointment.
“We are disappointed since the Chief Minister did not meet us even after giving an appointment. We wanted to submit a memorandum to him,” Meghalaya People’s United Front (MPUF) president D Wami Laloo told newsmen here on Wednesday.
The nine organisations include the JSU, HNYF, AJYWO, JSM MPUF, KSU, RJYF, JYF, and HANM.
Later, the nine NGOs rejected the invitation of the Chief Minister to meet him at his residence.
The NGOs were asked to nominate only five representatives for the meeting with the Chief Minister.
After failing to meet the NGOs at the secretariat, the Chief Minister directed five members to meet him at his residence owing to his ill health. The MPUF president Laloo also said that the official meeting with the NGOs was scheduled to be held in Secretariat according to the appointment kept, and not in the CM’s residence.
Moreover, selection of only five representatives to the meet the Chief Minister is unfair since all the pressure groups would like to meet the Chief Minister, he said.
Laloo, also, threatened that they will go ahead with the agitation if the Government failed to make the magisterial inquiry report public within four days time.
He said that several organizations from the district have demanded the transfer of four senior officials from East Jaintia Hills, additional deputy commissioner CS Laloo, Superintendent of Police MK Dkhar, Extra Assistant Commissioner HK Thabah and Additional Deputy Commissioner RS Manar.
MPUF president said that the officials are not capable of handling law and order, and alleged that all the four officials are responsible for the firing incident at Mookhep, East Jaintia Hills.
He also recalled that they had earlier submitted a memorandum to the Home Minister on October 1, 2014 but till date there has been no action taken from the government to punish the people responsible for the death of two innocent people.
‘Standard procedure for appointment with CM’
Meanwhile, the Joint Secretary to the Chief Minister RP Marak has said that standard procedure needs to be followed to meet the Chief Minister.
In view of the complaint by certain organizations with regard to the security access to the office of the Chief Minister, the official said that any person or organization wishing to have an appointment with the Chief Minister should furnish in details, full name/full address/designation/purpose of visit/contact no. and others.
“However, in the instant case on Wednesday, the members of the particular organization refused to cooperate or comply with the standard procedure of giving full details and the organization which they belonged to”, the statement said.
In such a situation, the security officers/police personnel are bound to adhere to the standard procedure and under no circumstance can entertain their claim for appointment with the Chief Minister” the official added.
