SHILLONG: Community and Rural Development Minister Prestone Tynsong on Wednesday informed that the new BPL list prepared on the basis of the Socio-Economic Caste Census will have to be examined by the Union Ministry of Rural Development.

“We have already published the new BPL list in most of the districts. Now the list will be examined by an expert group from the Ministry,” Tynsong said during the Question hour in the Asembly on Wednesday.

He said that the expert group will either include or exclude households from the list prepared by the State Government.

“The list approved by the expert group will be the final BPL list,” the Minister added.

Tynsong further informed that the C&RD Department had published the new list in East Khasi Hills on September 30, West Khasi Hills, East Garo Hills and Jaintia Hills on November 18, Ri Bhoi on November 28, West Garo Hills on October 15 and South Garo Hills on November 30.

He, however, clarified that the list presently maintained by the Department was prepared in 2002.
