IAF’s UAV crashes near Bhuj town in Gujarat

Bhuj(Guj):A Heron Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) of the Indian Air Force, used for surveillance, crashed on Wednesday on the outskirts of a village near Bhuj town in Gujarat’s Kutch district. “IAF’s Heron UAV which was used for surveillance in the area, crashed near Mankunva village, about 40 kms from Bhuj town in Kutch,” Defence PRO at Ahmedabad, Wing Commander Abhishek Matiman told PTI. The cost of the Heron UAV is approximately Rs 80 crores, the official said. “The reason behind the crash will be known after a court of inquiry gives its findings. As the UAV was remote-controlled and there was no person in it, the exact reasons behind the crash are not yet known,” he said. According to Bhuj Superintendent of Police D N Patel, there was no casualty reported due to the crash in Mankunva village near Bhuj town. Heron is a medium-altitude unmanned aerial vehicle developed by Malat division of Israel Aerospace industry. It is capable of medium altitude long endurance operations of up to 52 hours’ duration. It was acquired by India from Israel. (PTI)

HIV+ man held for raping minor daughter

Surat:An HIV positive man was arrested here on Wednesday for allegedly raping her minor daughter for three years, police said. “A 42-year-old man was arrested from his residence in city’s Sachin industrial area on basis of a complaint filed by her daughter (15) who alleged that her father raped her repeatedly for last three years,” police inspector P B Sapra said. The man is HIV positive and has been married twice, police said, adding, the victim is his daughter from the second wife. According to the victim’s statement, her father raped her for the first time when she was 12-year-old and has raped her repeatedly since then. He also threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed about the rape to anyone,” Sapra said. The girl later mustered courage and told her mother about it, who accompanied her to the police station to file an FIR, he said. A case has been registered against the man under IPC sections 376 (rape) and 506 (2) (criminal intimidation) and sections 4, 8 and 12 of Protection of Children against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, he said. The victim was sent to a government hospital for medical examination. (PTI)

Five bodies found missing from Bihar graveyard

Patna:In a bizarre incident, miscreants have dug out five bodies from a graveyard in Bihar’s Purnea district, police said on Wednesday.Purnea superintendent of police Ajit Kumar Satyarthi said: “After this incident was brought to our notice, police have begun investigating it.”Indigent hindus bury their kin in the graveyard near Kasba block instead of cremating them. It is a rare practice for years in Purnea, about 350 km from here.Maratu Sada, a local resident, said: “We are shocked after discovering that five graves were dug up and bodies missing from the graveyard in the last few days.”Sada said the graveyard was used by Dalits and other poor people who could not afford costly cremation.Police officials suspect an organised gang of smugglers was behind the disappearance of bodies. “Smugglers are using the bones of bodies for making money as they supply them in neighbouring Nepal and West Bengal for research purpose,” a police officer said.(IANS)

SC rejects bail plea of accused in 2002 Gulberg Society case

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today refused grant bail to one of the accused in the Gulberg Society massacre case of 2002 Gujarat riots in which former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri and 67 others were killed, saying it has asked the lower court to conclude trial in three months. “We have requested the sessions court to conclude the trial within three months. We cannot grant you regular bail at this stage,” a bench comprising Chief Justice H L Dattu and justices Madan B Lokur and A K Sikri said. Sandip alias Sonu Ramprakash Mehra, one of the undertrials who was out on interim bail after remaining in jail for almost 12 years, had moved the court seeking regular bail till the conclusion of the trial in the case. “Fifty eight persons are on regular bail in the case. Poor person like me is still in jail. Grant me bail till the trial concludes,” Sandip, who appeared in person, said. Earlier, the court had asked the trial court in Ahmedabad to wind up within three months the proceedings in Gulberg Society massacre case and had expressed concern over the accused languishing in jail due to delay in trial. Woman gangraped by husband, two others in UP

Rampur (UP):A woman was allegedly raped by her husband and two of his friends in Bilaspur area, following which a case has been registered against the three, police said on Wednesday. The incident took place on November 17 when the woman was returning to her home here. She was abducted by her husband and his friends and taken to a secluded house in Bareilly, police said. She was intoxicated through an injection, following which the three took turns to rape her, they said. The complainant and her husband have a strained relationship and have a domestic dispute case pending in the court, police added. The victim managed to return to her home somehow, following which she filed an FIR against the three accused, they said. (PTI)

Truck driver killed in freak mishap

Thane:A 40-year-old truck driver was killed in a freak road accident on the Bombay-Agra Highway within Kasara limits, police said on Wednesday. The incident took place late last night when the loaded truck was proceeding towards Nashik and the driver, Mahendra Yadav lost control over the vehicle near Mokhavande village due to a flat tyre, PSI K G Ghosalkar told PTI. Sensing danger, he abruptly jumped out but was run over by his own truck, which subsequently crashed into a puncture repairs shop nearby. Soon after, onlookers rushed Yadav to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Mohammad Nizam Mohammmad, the owner of the shop, which was damaged in the accident has filed a complaint following which offences of rash driving and negligence has been registered under IPC and Motor Vehicles Act against the dead driver.
