SHILLONG: Techno Global University, Shillong, has revealed that some miscreants were issuing fake certificates and mark sheets by using the logo and name of the University and has cautioned the people to be aware of the fraud.

Chancellor of the University, S.N. Mukherjee, in a recent letter addressed to Dr. S.K. Chattopadhyay, Member, Private Universities Regulatory Board, said that to prevent issue of fake certificates, a complaint was lodged with the police both in Shillong and West Bengal to check the trend.

After a case was filed with Barasat PS of West Bengal end of last year, police swung into action and arrested some miscreants.

Mukherjee said that the intervention of the State Government was also sought so that the fake website can be de-activated and miscreants are brought to book.

On the reports regarding irregularities and anomalies in the functioning of the private university, the Techno Global University denied that the University was engaged in any illegal activity.

The Chancellor urged Chattopadhyay to move the Government to get the NOC for procurement of land for setting up of the campus with building and other infrastructure.

After the commencement of the administrative activities of the University in a building at Shillong Polytechnic College, Mawlai, the University had identified land at Tyngring and has made agreements for transfer of land after paying Rs.1.2 crore as advance to the land owners.

“Since prior permission of the Meghalaya Government is required before transfer of land, we have applied in the prescribed format for the same on December 16, 2010, but the Government was yet to provide the NOC,” the Chancellor said, adding that the University has been unable to start its first session in the absence of a suitable campus for the last five years.
