Govt mulls steps to prevent erosion, floods

Shillong: The State Government has initiated construction of embankments and protection walls for protecting villages and agricultural lands from erosion and floods.
Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Water Resources, Rowell Lyngdoh, while replying to a question from the Leader of Opposition, Donkupar Roy, on soil erosion and flash floods, said that the State Plan allocation for flood control during the year 2014-15 is Rs.2450 lakh and the funds are available under Centrally-sponsored schemes.
To a supplementary question, Lyngdoh said that a proposal has been prepared for protection against floods for Shella area while a consultant has been appointed for Dangar-Balat flood control programme and the DPR is in an advanced stage.
