Jilted lover gets life term for killing woman’s husband
New Delhi: A 24-year-old man, who killed the husband of his former girlfriend and claimed that he had accidentally fallen on a saw while working, has been awarded life term by a Delhi court. Additional Sessions Judge Kamini Lau awarded the jail term to Atul Sharma, an Uttar Pradesh resident, who fatally attacked the woman’s husband with carpentry tools and an axe here last year “to pave the way for his marriage with her”. “The prosecution has been able to prove and substantiate the allegations against the accused Atul Sharma of having committed the murder of the woman’s husband,” the judge said. “For the offence under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC convict is sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for life and fine to the tune of Rs 1 lakh,” the court said, directing that the amount be given to brother or guardian of the deceased as compensation. The court also referred the matter to Delhi Legal Service Authority for further compensation to the brother or guardians of the woman’s husband under Victim Compensation Scheme.(PTI)
Man held for cheating by promising jobs abrood
Puducherry:Police arrested a painter on charges of cheating people and collecting several lakhs of rupees by promising them jobs in France. According to police, Govindaraj (38) of Muthulingampet here collected From Rs 20,000 to Rs.50,000 as advance from unemployed youths for jobs in France and thus collected over Rs.20 lakhs. He also collected their passport and cheated them for the last one year. Govindaraj, mentioning the name of an ashramite said he will be making arrangements for jobs in France and made the youths believe this. Since, nothing materialised even after one year, they went to his house, manhandled him and handed him over to the police. Police registered a case against Govindarajan on a complaint from Ilam Parithi of Mudaliarpet, arrested him and seized 19 passports, two cell phones and and a scooty from his possession.He was produced before a judge and remanded to judicial custody and lodged in the Central Prison here. Undertrial prisoner escapes from police custody
Karimnagar(Tel):An undertrial prisoner escaped from police custody when he was taken to a court for hearing at a town in the district, police said on Friday. Neeli Vamshi (27), a murder accused, was Thursday brought to the sessions court at Godavarikhani town from Karimnagar district jail for hearing in connection with the case. However, before the hearing, Vamshi gave the police a slip and escaped from the court premises, apparently by climbing down its compound wall, an officer at Godavarikhani I-town police station said. An intensive search was on to nab the prisoner, he said. (PTI)
Absconding murder accused arrested after six months
Muzaffarnagar: Main accused in a farmer’s murder case, who was on the run for past six months, has been arrested by the police at Hind village under the Thanabhawan police station in Shamli district. The accused identified as Mashook Ali was arrested on Thursday, police said, adding that a pistol has been recovered from his possession. A 55-year-old farmer Zaferyab (55) was shot dead allegedly by five persons over an old enmity at Hind village on June 10. Police had registered a case against five persons in this connection, out of which four were arrested earlier. A local court had earlier initiated attachment proceedings against him. (PTI)
Acid thrown on woman corporator
Bareilly (UP):A woman corporator was seriously injured when some persons allegedly threw acid on her in Faridpur area due a money-related dispute, police said. The incident took place last night when corporator of Para, Muskan Devi (35), who used to run a shop in her house with her husband Sonu, had entered into altercation with some persons over payment of money, they said. The situation took an ugly turn when two–Ramdas and Arvind– threw acid on Muskan’s face and private part injuring her seriously. Police has lodged an FIR in this regard and arrested one of the accused, SP, Rural, Brijesh Kumar Srivastava said. (PTI)
Railway policeman, accused of molesting teenager
Baharampur:A Railway police personnel in his 50s was on Friday arrested here for alleged molestation of his next door girl after being man-handled by the neighbours before police rescued him. Eye witnesses said the neighbours barged into the house of Moloy Chakraborty and beat him in front of his wife and family members after the fifth standard girl complained of sexual assault by the so called ‘uncle.’ The girl was being examined by the medics at the Baharampur hospital, where the accused was also admitted for injuries after being beaten by the neighbours. The Railway policeman pleaded innocence saying he did not do anything to the girl. The girl alleged that her offender lured to give ‘prasad’ and then molested her in his room.The alleged crime took place at Nimtolla in Baharampur town. (UNI)
CBI recovers weapons in manoj murder case
Kannur:The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), probing the murder of RSS district funcitonary Manoj alias Kathirur Manoj, on Friday recovered the weapns used by the killer gang allegedly of CPI(M), near a river at Ukkasmotta near Thalassery. According to CBI sources, five swords and a steel knife were recovered. They were concealed in a gunny bag and kept on the side of a river near Ukkasmotta. The whereabouts of the weapons were provided by one of the arrested accused in the case, the sources added. The weapons will be later produced in the CBI court at Ernakulam and then sent for chemical examination at Forensic labs. The CBI team took over the probe of the case on November 5 from the Crime Branch Special investigation team. Both the teams arrested 17 of the 19 accucsed named by the Crime Branch, so far. (UNI)
