Police busts gang of robbers who stole trucks

Jajpur (Odisha):With the arrest of eight persons, police on Saturday claimed to have busted a gang of robbers who stole parked trucks on highways in Odisha’s Jajpur district and sold them. Police also recovered a stolen truck, a SUV vehicle, sharp edged weapons, 56 truck tyres and 12 mobile phones from their possession on Thursday, while five gang members managed to escape, Jajpur Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Santosh Kumar Nayak said. Police claimed the gang had been involved in stealing of as many as many as 16 trucks from Jajpur district alone. Besides, the gang was involved in stealing of many trucks in Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Angul and Khurda districts, Nayak said. The gang was operating in a technical manner by dividing its members into four teams. The inter district gang used to steal parked trucks on National and state highways and sell them in and outside the state.(PTI)

Woman police officer manhandled; three arrested

Thane: A woman inspector at Uttan Coastal police station was allegedly manhandled by three members of a family after they got upset with her while lodging a complaint, district rural police said on Saturday. According to K R Yele of Uttan Coastal Police station, (Thane Rural) the incident took place yesterday when the Station Office In-charge, API Priyatama Muthe was attending to the complainants from the family. The accused began shouting and abusing her following which they even manhandled her by grabbing her uniform collar and tearing a portion of it, following which the police station staff rushed and intervened to contained them, the complaint by Muthe said. All the three attackers — Shyamsunder Mandale, 48, Aaarti Mandale, 40 and Mukesh S Mandale, 21– residents of Dhavgi Dongri in Uttan were later arrested under section 353, (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty),504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 r/w 34 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC. Seven injured in grenade explosion at Lal Chowk

Srinagar: At least seven persons were injured in a grenade explosion triggered by suspected militants at the busy Lal Chowk in the heart of the city this Saturday noon, police said. Unidentified militants hurled a grenade towards security personnel outside the defunct Palladium Cinema but the device fell short of the target and exploded on the roadside, they said. Seven persons were injured in the blast which sparked off panic in the business hub. The injured were rushed to SMHS hospital, the police said adding, the area has been cordoned off and a hunt has been launched to nab the militants involved in the attack. No militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the explosion. (PTI)

Arms cache recovered from militant hideout in Doda

Jammu:Security forces have busted a militant hideout and recovered arms and ammunition in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, a defence spokesman said here on Saturday. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, Rashtriya Rifles and police launched a joint search operation and busted the hideout in Marmat in Bhaderwah tehsil of Doda district yesterday, he said. The recoveries from the hideout include an AK-47 rifle, a chinese pistol, two .303 rifle, three 12 bore gun, one sniper rifle, one country-made pistol, four magazines of AK-47 and three magazines of .303 rifle, he said. In addition, two radio sets, around 216 rounds of assorted ammunition, four hand grenades and several other logistic stores were also recovered, the spokesman added. (PTI)

Five labourers killed, eight others injured

Odisha:At least five labourers were killed and eight others injured when a truck carrying them overturned on a hilly road in Rayagada district on Saturday, police said. The mishap took place when the truck, carrying workers from a stone quarry, overturned and fell from a height after losing balance near Gorakhpur village in Tikiri police station area, Rayagada Superintendent of Police K Siva Subramani said. While five labourers died on the spot, eight injured persons were taken to the district headquarter hospital for treatment, police saidOne of the injured persons was later shifted to a hospital in Visakhapatnam after his condition deteriorated, police added. Gang of robbers busted

Kanpur:With the arrest of three persons, police on Saturday claimed to have busted a gang of robbers allegedly involved in recent case of loot at the railway station. Three persons identified as Ajmat Hussain, Ramu Puran Sindhi and Vijay have been arrested last evening, Kanpur SSP K Emmanual said. A student Javed had lodged a complaint with Raypurva police stating that in the night of November 2, some unidentified men had looted his objects, he said. Following this, the stolen mobile of Javed was tracked, which revealed the location of the accused, SSP said. According to police, the trio has confessed about their involvement in loot cases. (PTI)

usband chops off wife’s nose over property dispute

Kota:A 35-year-old woman’s nose and four fingers of her hand were chopped off allegedly by her husband after an argument broke out between them over a case of property in Borkheda area here, police said on Saturday. The accused Nand Singh (40) along with his brother attacked his wife Shimla Kanwa with a sickle and chopped her nose along with four fingers of her hand on Friday. They later locked her in a room from where police recovered her and admitted to Maharao Bheem Singh hospital. The couple were living separately from last few years, but the victim Shimla Kanwar visited her husband some days back to solve the property issue when the incident occurred, SHO Ranvijay Singh told. Police have booked Nand Singh and his younger brother in the matter under various sections of the IPC.(PTI)
