Pedestrian dies, driver assaulted

SHILLONG: A pedestrian was killed when a recovery van rammed into a group of women on Friday.

According to police, on Friday at around 8.20 am, one recovery van (ML-04A-3720) driven by Tinku Deka knocked down four women pedestrians identified as R L Nongtdu, Rose Bareh, Hunmon Nongtdu and Poilang Nongtdu at Shi Kilo, East Jaintia Hills.

Victims sustained injuries and were shifted to CHC Khliehriat where Poilang Nongtdu succumbed to her injuries. The driver was assaulted by the general public and admitted at CHC Khliehriat due to injuries.
