SHILLONG: An apology on affidavit filed by the Commissioner of Customs(Preventive) N.E Region G Panmei on Monday before the division bench of Meghalaya High Court comprising Chief Justice Uma Nath Singh and justice T.N.K Singh was not accepted.

The Commissioner of Customs in his affidavit submitted an apology “that if any act of interference with the administration of justice is perceived on my part, I hereby tender my unqualified apology for the same before this High Court”.

The division bench held that explanation given by the officer was not satisfactory and decided to proceed further to examine the officer personally in Court in order to assess the actual intention behind writing the letter.

Hence the Officer was directed to remain present in Court on December 3 to explain his position for entering into correspondence with the Registrar General with a request ‘‘not to list the pending cases for the time being as the Customs Department is without a Counsel”.
