ASAK militant beaten to death in South Garo Hills

TURA: A suspected member of the ASAK militant outfit who was trying to extort money from villagers in South Garo Hills District was killed by a mob on Sunday last.

The suspected militant identified as one Gamseng Sangma had entered Rewak village near Siju in remote South Garo Hills at around 7pm on November 30 and began serving demand notes on behalf of the ASAK outfit and also threatened the villagers when an angry mob of villagers gave chase to him.

The mob caught up with him and gave him a severe thrashing leading to his death. His body was later handed over to police by the villagers.

Meanwhile, a motorcycle thief from Tura who had stolen a bike from Bolsalgre locality of Baghmara, South Garo Hills, was chased by the public and caught on Tuesday afternoon.

The accused Dim A. Sangma, took off with the stolen motorcycle at around 2pm. Locals who gave chase in their vehicles caught up with him at Goka area and thrashed him before handing him to Baghmara police.
