SHILLONG: Buoyed by the tremendous response to the first phase of the prestigious Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) launched in April last year, the State Government is now gearing up to begin the next phase of enrollment for the health scheme from January next.
The State Government is planning to include another 2.4 lakh households in Meghalaya under the second phase of MHIS to add to the 2.6 lakh households which were covered under the first phase.
Beneficiaries would now be entitled to get insurance cover of up to Rs.2 lakh, as the upper ceiling has been raised by Rs.40,000 from the previous maximum of Rs.1.60 lakh. More than 2500 medical packages would be included in the second phase of MHIS.
Informing this to The Shillong Times, Larry Rymbai, State Manager of MHIS, said that the registration process would begin in January but people would start getting the benefits from May onwards.
He also informed that the tender process for the second phase has been completed.
The second phase of MHIS has been delayed after some people filed litigation over the tendering process of the scheme.
