Director General of Assam Rifles visits Nagaland
Kohima:Director General of Assam Rifles(DGAR) Lt. Gen. R K Rana paid a two-day visit to the Headquarters Inspectorate General Assam Rifles (North) at Kohima from December one. A release issued by PRO of IGAR(N) today said during his visit Gen. Rana was briefed on the prevailing security situation in the state, including the deployment of Assam Rifles and co-ordination with other Security Forces and Departments of the government. The General stressed on the need for synergy of efforts at all levels and commended all ranks for their untiring efforts towards ensuring peace and tranquility in the state. He also inaugurated the Unit Run Canteen of Headquarters of IGAR which has been renovated and installed with sophisticated and ultra modern facilities. The DGAR expressed his gratitude to the Civil Administration, NGOs and the Church for extending cooperation to the Assam Rifles in the discharge of their duties. Gen. Rana also attended the ‘Hornbill Festival’ and was appreciative about the high standards visible during the conduct of the event. (UNI)
Troops nab five drug peddlers
Imphal: The 24 Assam Rifles troops nabbed Five drug peddlers with 225 gms of heroin worth of Rs 1.25 crores at Khudengthabi check post. Assam Rifles officials today said two of them were women and the operation to nab the drug peddlers lasted for few days. The exact date of arrest was not revealed. The five persons were Th Somota, Md Sanayai, Moinam Salim, Anthonliu Kamei, Jamlet Hokip.The troops also seized 7780 numbers of WY tablets cost of Rs 15.56 lakhs, four mobile phones, Rs 50 (Burmese currency), one US Dollar, one Delhi Metro card were recovered from their possession. They were handed over to the Moreh Police Station/ Narcotic Control Bureau Imphal. (UNI)
Nagaland GBF urges Center to settle Naga political issue
Kohima:The Nagaland Gaon Burhas Federation (NGBF) has resolved to strongly appeal to the Union government for settlement of long pending Naga political issue at the earliest for peace, development and advancement of ‘our’ land. According to a release issued today by Nagaland GB Federation President Shalem Konyak and General Secretary A Taku Longkumer said that during its general meeting held in Zunheboto Town on November 28, the Federation also resolved to maintain unity and uniformity amongst the GBs without any tribal feelings. The House resolved to use only red on both front and back side of their uniform waist coat henceforth. They also informed that NGBF decided to appeal to the state government to ‘include in GBs Corpus Fund scheme for the demised GBs before reaching ten years in service with effect from the first notification as the death cannot be control.’The meeting also decided that the present tenure ending general meeting shall be held in October 2015 at Mokokchung Town. It also decided to organise seminar and workshop on district and sub-divisional level for GBs. (UNI)
Bhutan scholar visits Nagaland
Kohima:The President of the Centre for Bhutan Studies and GNH Research Dasho Karma Ura visited the Nagaland Bamboo Resource Center (NBRC) at 6th Mile in Sovima of Dimapur yesterday along with other dignitaries. According to a press release on Wednesday, the Media & Publicity Officer of the Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency (NBDA) said Mr. Ura, who is also Vice Chairperson of Bhutan-India Strategic Dialogue and Honorary Colonel appointed by His Majesty King of Bhutan. During his visit at the NBRC, he also visited the ‘Green Circle’ Bamboo amphitheater, NBRC, venue for the oncoming Hornbill Bamboo Carnival to be held from December 5 to 7, the release stated. Mr. Ura will be the Chief Guest of on Wednesday’s programmes of the Nagaland Hornbill Festival at the Naga Heritage Village Kisama. (UNI)
More than 800 disabled people get pension in Mizoram
Aizawl:There were 15,160 people with disabilities in Mizoram as per the 2011 Census out of which 813 people were given disability pension even as the state observed World Disabled Day on Wednesday. Office of State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities said that 142 disabled people were given job in the state government while 25 educated disabled people were given stipend and 788 students with disabilities were given stipend. Though awareness about the problems of PWDs was now thought to be high in the state, only few churches have ramps and toilet facilities for disabled people. State Social Welfare Minister P C Lalthanliana recently said that there were still a number of posts reserved for PWDs yet to be filled under the state government. (PTI)
