TURA/AMPATI/NONGSTOIN/Mawkyrwat: Along with the rest of the world the World Disability Day was observed by the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Block Resource Centre, Resubelpara in North Garo Hills on Wednesday.
During the function in Resubelpara, government officials including M&HO of Resubelpara Civil Hospital, Dr Cenetiar A Sangma, MA Med, SDSEO of Resubelpara, SK Saha and Resubelpara BSEO, HG Momin were among others who grace the occasion along with a large number of physically challenge people from the District.
As part of the day long programme, games and sports activities for boys and girls like Musical Chairs, Singing Competition, 50 meter race etc were also organized where many children participated.
The Day was also observed on Wednesday at Ampati in Southwest Garo Hills with a daylong function for people with disabilities organized by the District Social Welfare Officer at Ampati mini stadium.
Attending the programme as the Chief Guest, Meghalaya Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Zenith Sangma urged all district officials to be sensitive to the needs of people with disabilities.
Earlier a procession was undertaken by PWDs from Ampati mini stadium to State Bank of India at Ampati market and back.
Meanwhile in Nongstoin, the office of the Block Mission Coordinator, SSA, Block Resource Centre Nongstoin celebrated World disability Day on Wednesday at Bishop Hall, Nongstoin.
L.G Nongsiej, MDC, Nongstoin Constituency was a Chief Guest of the programmed in the presence of V. Swer, MCS, Block Development Officer of Nongstoin C&RD Block also the chairman of SSA, P. Ryntathiang, Block Mission Coordinator, SSA Nongstoin Block, Rev. Fr. Richard Iawphniaw and officers from SSA attended the programme.
Rympei Jingshai School for Inclusive Education, Government L.P Schools and Private schools from Nongstoin along with the teachers participated in the programme.
Several events were organized for the kids on the day before the celebration program.
The Chief Guest, Nongsiej spoke about the initiatives taken by the government and representatives in order to help people with disability.
In Mawkyrwat, SW Khasi Hills Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), H.S. Diengdoh, has on Wednesday urged the parents of the Children With Disabilities (CWDs) to send them to school as “education means everything to them”, especially because they has their own abilities.
Speaking as the Chief Guest on the celebration of the World Disability Day, Diengdoh encouraged the parents of CWDs in the District to send their children to school because CWDs also has their own abilities which is equal with others.
Diengdoh who also is a father of a disabled child, said that the Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) have their own talents, but they can achieve that only when parents support them. He called upon the parents to treat them equally.
