Posing as CBI and IT officers, criminals loot Rs 18 lakh
Patna:Criminals posing as CBI and Income Tax officers, looted Rs 12 lakhs in cash and ornament worth Rs six lakhs from the house of a leading businessman in Khajpura here early on Friday. Police said some miscreants arrived at the residence of Vinod Kumar in Khajpura locality under Shastrinagar police station area and presented themselves as CBI and Income Tax officers. They produced fake documents in support of their claims and also about their authority to search Kumar’s house. The criminals began the operation at about 10 PM last night and continued their activities till 4 AM on Friday, police said. They collected Rs 12 lakh in cash and ornaments worth Rs six lakh from lockers and boxes kept in the house. Police said in their attempt to prove the fact that their operation was genuine, the desperadoes also prepared seizure list of cash and ornaments. They then escaped in their vehicles. While retreating the gang threatened the businessman with dire consequences as they felt that he was growing suspicious of their activities, police said adding they were conducting raids to nab the criminals. 4 Jharkhand mines department officials ‘abducted’ by Maoists
CHAIBASA: Four officials of Jharkhand Mines Department were suspected to have been abducted by Maoists in West Singhbhum district on Thursday. According to superintendent of police Narendra Kumar Singh, four officials were suspected to have been kidnapped around 4pm by Maoists from Roro’s asbestos mines under Muffasil police station near Chaibasa, the headquarters town of West Singhbhum district. The officials did not inform the local police station before visiting the mine area, he said, adding that the security forces had surrounded the area and a search operation was on to locate them.(PTI)
Shoe factory gutted in fire in Agra
Agra:One person was injured when fire broke out in two-storied building of a shoe manufacturing unit in Karishna Nagar area here on Friday, police said. The fire started this evening after a suspected short-circuit in the electricity meter which gutted the factory, owned by one Mohit Katyal, including all finished goods and other raw materials, leading to loss of several lakhs of rupees, they said. There were six workers in the factory when the fire broke, they tried to douse the flames but it spread rapidly and entrapped them, a fire department official said. Seeing the flames coming out of the factory and hearing the screams of the workers, locals informed the fire department and rushed to the building to break a wall to make the escape route for the workers. It took three hours to the fire fighters to contain the flames. One of the workers, Pintu suffered burn injuries in his hands, who has been sent to hospital for treatment, police said. (PTI)
