SHILLONG: Time is running out for the committee headed by Deputy Chief Minister Rowell Lyngdoh to submit its report on the issue of influx since the committee is yet to complete its job.

Earlier, in November Chief Minister Mukul Sangma had directed the Committee to submit its recommendations within one month.

The Committee has been entrusted with the task of studying and examining a few amendments to the Benami Transaction Act, 1980, and the Tenants Verification Draft Bill.

Besides the Rowell-led Committee, two other committees were constituted by the State Government headed by Additional DGP S.K. Jain and Chief Secretary P.B.O. Warjri, respectively.

The Jain Committee has already submitted its report to the Government on the entry and exit points in State except Garo Hills where the process was delayed due to the devastating floods in the region in September.

The Committee headed by the Chief Secretary was tasked to study and examine various legislative measures to achieve the objective of coming up with a comprehensive mechanism to check influx.
