Country star Taylor Swift has landed another US chart double after her 1989 album returned to the top of the charts. The 24-year-old singer has toppled ex-boyfriend Harry Styles and his One Direction band-mates from the Billboard 200 number one spot as her Blank Space hit remains rooted to the top of the Hot 100 singles countdown.
Swift’s new album has now sold over 2.5 million copies in the five weeks since its release. It has spent all but one of those weeks at number one.
Pentatonix’s festive album That’s Christmas rises to two on the new chart, while Eminem’s new Shady Xv compilation debuts at three. One Direction’s Four slides to four and Sam Smith returns to the top five at five with ‘In the Lonely Hour’.
Meanwhile, Swift’s Blank Space keeps Meghan Trainor and her former number one, ‘All About That Bass’, from returning to the top of the Billboard Hot 100. Hozier’s Take Me to Church, Swift’s Shake It Off and Animals by Maroon 5 round out the new top five.
Swift has been nominated a total of 531 times, and has won 317 awards.(PTI)
