National Youth and Junior Judo Championship 2014-15 gets underway today at JNSC

SHILLONG: In an embarrassment for the organisers as well as the entire State, participants who are currently in the State for the three-day National Youth and Junior Judo Championship 2014-15 have raised questions over the accommodation and other facilities provided to them.

The championship will run from December 8-10 at the JN Sports Complex, Polo Ground.

Some of the participants complained on Sunday that the rooms in the PG School where they were been put up were quite dirty.

A lady Judoka rued that there was no water even in the toilets much to their discomfort forcing them to go to the ‘pay and use toilet’ at the Parking Lot, Polo.

Some participants lamented that there was no electricity in the rooms, while others complained that food was not being provided to them on time.

Some participants claimed that irked with the lack of facilities their coaches have gone to search for hotel rooms for the players.

When contacted, Larry Warjri, a member of the organising committee, admitted that there were certain hiccups early in morning and added that providing accommodation for 1000 odd participants was no mean task.

He, however, claimed that all the loopholes were rectified.

He also said that the process of providing necessary articles like mattresses and food took a bit of time as the organizing committee was awaiting details of the players from the coaches and team managers.

The three-day championship which gets underway on Monday will be inaugurated by Chief Advisor of the Meghalaya Government, D.D. Lapang.
