Nagaland Excise Dept. destroys huge quantity of drugs
Kohima:Nagaland Commissioner of Excise Maongwati Aier has said that Nagaland being located near the ‘golden triangle’ was a location used to transit point by drug dealers and there was a need to curb the menace.Delivering a short speech at a drug destruction function at Dimapur on Saturday Aier informed that the government has formed District Prohibition Committee (DPC) in all districts to be headed by the Deputy Commissioner with members from the church or NGOs and other Government officials. The Dimapur Ao Baptist Arogo (DABA) Associate Pastor Rev Lima Jamir, who also spoke on the occasion lauded the excise department for rendering commendable services to the society. He however lamented that alcohol was being ‘sold and available in the shops and hotels near excise office gate and its surroundings.’ He urged the excise department to check those places and said that it was the duty of every citizen curb anti social elements which was destroying the society. Excise department, Dimapur has destroyed seized narcotic and other drugs worth Rs. 1, 90,28,300 at the Excise Directorate in Dimapur. Altogether 27 cases containing drugs like cocaine, heroin, brown sugar, opium, ganja, drug capsules and banned cough syrup were destroyed. (UNI)
Dimapur administration takes steps for ATM security
Kohima:After lifting of a whole ATM machine and destruction of some ATM machines, for the safety and security of the ATM booths in Dimapur district, the district administration and police held an emergency meeting on Wednesday last. According to a press release issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur Wezope Kenye on Sunday informed that the meeting resolved that Superintendent of Police (SP), Dimapur will provide security personnel on getting requisition letter from the bank concerned for loading cash in the ATM booths, which will be mandatory. Any lapses in not adhering to the resolution and in case of any unfortunate happening, the bank authority concerned will shoulder the whole responsibility, it added. Further, it was decided that all bank managers concerned will verify, inspect their ATM booths and submit secured status report to SP of Dimapur, the release said. (UNI)
2 die in mishap in Mizoram
Aizawl:Two persons, including a woman, were killed and five others injured when a passenger vehicle coming from Silchar, rolled down into a gorge near Hualngohmun village, about 7 km south of Aizawl on Sunday. SP C. Laldina told PTI that two passengers, both non-tribals, died on the spot while three injured persons were admitted in the Falkawn hospital nearby and one was brought to the Aizawl Civil Hospital. The cause of the mishap was being investigated, Laldina said. The bodies of Lipon Roy was sent to Karimganj (Assam) and that of Pinky Roy to Silchar (Assam) after autopsy. (PTI)
700 gm tumour removed from dog’s abdomen
Itanagar:In a very rare case in veterinary practice, a 700 gm tumour was surgically removed from the abdomen of a dog at State Veterinary Hospital, Naharlagun. The tumour comprised 10 per cent of the total body weight of the dog which is equivalent to 6 to 7 kg in case of human beings. A team of veterinary doctors led by Ojing Rukbo, state veterinary officer and Sorang Tadap performed the exploratory surgery. It took about 3 hours to remove the tumour from the abdomen of the dog, official sources said on Sunday. “It was a very rare case and a happy moment for us as the tumour didn’t damage the internal organs like kidneys, liver etc. So the chance of survival is very high provided the animal got good post-operative care,” said Ojing. Nagaland Ebola training conducts at Zunheboto
Kohima:One-day Ebola training was held at the chamber of Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Office Zunheboto with Chief Medical Officer Dr. G. Hokishe Sema as the resource person on Saturday. According to official sources on Sunday, in the session, overview of Ebola virus disease, case definition, clinical features and laboratory diagnosis were discussed by Dr. Hokishe. Emphasizing on the early surveillance of action purpose of contact tracing and element of contact tracing he elaborated the IDSP surveillance to be alert for contact tracing. Dr. Hokishe also encouraged the gathering for community engagement as it is the key to successfully contain outbreak. Use of personal protection equipments was also demonstrated. (UNI)
