Police impose fine on traffic violators during night drive

SHILLONG: Few lives have been lost in the past along the Barik-Civil Hospital route and many accidents have occurred when vehicles barged into the stretch without bothering about the No Entry restriction

 On Saturday night, a number of vehicles were detected by police for violating the No Entry from Civil Hospital junction to Barik point at around 11.30 PM.

Later, Traffic police immediately putup a check post and intercepted nineteen vehicles for violating the No Entry.

East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang informed that apart from trucks, an ambulance, a press vehicle and even Government vehicles violated the No Entry Rule on Saturday night.

Police  realized a fine of 21300 from the violators

 ‘‘It was found that the violators knew of the restriction but they

chose to violate thus endangering the lives of other motorists coming from the opposite direction,” Kharkrang said

 He even warned that regular cases under the Indian penal code will be taken up and such drivers will be arrested in future.

Meanwhile, a vehicle (MLO5C 8860) Which was clamped at Nongrimbah, Laitumkhrah for for parking on the no parking zone fled away with the clamp instead of paying fine

SP M Kharkrang said that the a case of theft of Government property has been taken up against the owner and police have sounded an alert to intercept the vehicle

Kharkrang said that the vehicle is registered in the name of Rajib Bhowmik of Goraline but the vehicle could not be found in the address.
