BSF Golden Jubilee celebration gets underway

SHILLONG: BSF as a part of its Golden Jubilee Celebration has planned to conduct series of activities like medical camps, cultural programmes, games and sports throughout the year to foster a cordial relation between BSF and the local population. As a part of this initiative, “BSF Golden Jubilee Celebration Cricket Tournament” has been jointly organized by 36 Battalion BSF and a local club , West Wind United Club, Tura at Dobasaipara BSF Campus. A total of 30 teams from places as far as Dalu would be participating in the tournament which will be held for over 14 days. These matches would be played in the format of knock out system with 15 overs and 09 players per team. Opening match of the tournament was played between 36 Battalion BSF and Thunder Club in which 36 Battalion BSF won the match by 03 wickets after a tough contest. Inaugurating the tournament, Madan Singh Rathore, DIG, BSF Tura emphasized that BSF has been always working for the security & welfare of the local population whether it be at the border or in the internal security duties. He said that BSF is determined to provide whatever assistance it can provide to the local population in times of need, specially during natural calamity as it was the first organization to reach the citizens during  recent flood in Garo Hills. The final match and the closing ceremony will be held on December 20 at Dobasipara, Tura.

Billiards & Snooker championship organized

SHILLONG: The 8th Meghalaya State Billiards & Snooker championship organised by the Meghalaya Billiards & Snooker Association was inaugurated on Monday by the Managing Director of Shillong Club Dr W kharshiing. All together 34 participants have taken part in the championship and around 72 matches will be played. The president of Meghalaya Billiards & Snooker Association Mr Deepak Laloo thanked the management of the Shillong Club for allowing the association to hold the tournament in the club premises. He also said that due to the lack of the associations own infrastructure the tournament had to be held at the Shillong club.The winner and runners up will represent the state in the upcoming National Tournament to be held in January in Kolkata, West Bengal.
