SHILLONG: Despite a 24-hour bandh called by the KSU South West Khasi Hills Unit in protest against the scrapping of a major road project in the district, PWD Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Sunday refused to make any commitment on the project saying that the onus was on the Chief Minister.

Speaking over the phone, the Minister said he could not make any commitment over the construction of the 40-kilometer Weiloi-Rangblang road in South West Khasi Hills which was proposed under the NLCPR.

“It is only Chief Minister Mukul Sangma who is the competent authority to give any kind of commitment on this important road project,” Dhar said.

The KSU South West Khasi Hills Unit has called a 24-hour shutdown from 5am of Dec 18 in protest against the State Government’s decision to drop the Rs.27 crore Weiloi-Rangblang road project.

The PWD Minister, however, said he would convene a meeting of the concerned department on Monday to discuss the status of the project.

“If necessary I can invite the NGOs members and brief them on the status of this project. This is what I can do from my side,” Dhar said.
