SCA win easily against West Garo Hills

Shillong: Shillong Cricket Association win against West Garo Hills by 8 wickets in the Inter District U-16 category Cricket Tournament organized by Meghalaya Cricket Association. The visitors winning the toss decided to bat first and could manage a modest total of 117 runs for 8 wickets in allotted 35 overs thyanks mainly to a well made half century by Chianto Sangma off 56 balls and Nikgamseng Sangma chipping in with a patient 20 runs(58 balls). Kiran Biswa and Aryan Bora claimed 3 wickets each for the home team. In reply SCA were in command from the beginning and surpassed the WGH total in 28.2 overs scoring 118 runs and losing only 2 wickets in the process. Ranjan Yadav 27 runs(53 balls) Rayner Lyngdoh 26 runs(43 balls) and Surya Rai 26 runs(24 balls) were the main contributors for SCA. WGH bowlers failed a make any impression as both SCA wickets came from run outs. This second victory by 8 wickets take SCA closer to a place in the semi final.

State Tennis Championship end successfuly

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya State Tennis Championship under the’ Chief Minister’s 100 Day Festival’ organized by the Meghalaya Tennis Association from the 10th to the 13th December which was held at the Shillong Club Limited Tennis Courts came to a successful end on Saturday. Men’s Singles and Doubles, Women’s Singles and Doubles and Boys Under 16 Singles were participated in the event. The Finals of all the categories were held on Saturday followed by the prize distribution ceremony. Shri Frederick Roy Kharkongor, IAS, Secretary Sports & Youth Affairs graced the occasion as the Chief Guest

 

Assam reduced to 133/6 against Jharkhand

Guwahati: Jharkhand bowled with purpose to reduce Assam to 133/6 even as Arun Karthik struck an unbeaten half century on the opening day of their Group C Ranji Trophy cricket match here on Sunday. Karthik was batting on 55 when stumps were drawn after only 53 overs of play owing to poor weather at the Nehru Stadium. Ajay Yadav and Samar Quadri returned figures of 2/21 and 2/46 respectively, while Rituraj Singh picked up one wicket. Sibsankar Roy contributed 32 with the help of six boundaries. Karthik, too, found the fence six times while facing 106 balls. Earlier, Jharkhand skipper Saurabh Tiwary had won the toss and opted to field. Assam 1st innings: 133/6 in 53 overs (Arun Karthik 55 not out, Sibsankar Roy 32; Ajay Yadav 2/21, Samar Quadri 2/46. (PTI)

Prannoy, Ruthvika win singles badminton titles

Mumbai: Top seed H S Prannoy and unseeded junior shuttler Ruthvika Shivani Gadde clinched the men’s and women’s singles titles respectively in the USD 25,000 Tata Open India International Challenge badminton tournament, here today. Prannoy, the India no. 4 and world no. 22, defeated a fighting R M V Gurusaidutt – ranked 45th in the world – in a thrilling men’s singles final 21-16 20-22 21-17 that lasted 64 minutes at the Cricket Club of India (CCI) courts. Earlier, rising 17-year-old Hyderabad shuttler Ruthvika, continued her impressive run by stunning fourth seed Arundhati Pantawane, on a comeback trail after a shoulder injury, 19-21 21-18 21-14 in the 50-minute long women’s singles final. It was the second time that Ruthvika had beaten her more experienced rival, having come out trumps in their previous meeting in the senior ranking tournament at Gandhidam in October. In the men’s final, Prannoy subdued the never-say-die Gurusaidutt after an intense battle between two trainees of the Hyderabad-based Gopichand Academy that thrilled the crowd. Both shuttlers fought for every point with Prannoy superior in his smashing and in net play and his rival defending well and even saving a match point in the second game when he was down 19-20. The second game saw the lead changing hand constantly before the two players were deadlocked. (PTI)
