TURA: The top leaders of the two militant groups which were disbanded at Tura on Monday has openly indicated that they are not averse to joining politics now that they have bid farewell to an armed struggle.

“Till today we had fought with arms against lack of opportunities, corruption and the lack of development. Now we will fight democratically. We will join political bodies,” announced ANVC-B chairman Bernard Rimpu Marak while speaking on behalf of the outfit during the disbanding ceremony.

He declined to mention which political group he was joining but said that his cadres would also take part in the political movement.

His counterpart and ANVC chairman Dilash Marak has also expressed his keenness to join the political bandwagon terming it a ‘better option’.

“We will decide after considering the national political scenario,” said Marak while refusing to divulge further details.

There are reports indicating that a national party has already sent feelers to the rebel leaders to join them.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, however, denied any knowledge about the political move by the rebel leaders.

“So far the leaders of ANVC and ANVC-B have not approached me for joining the Congress party. If they are willing we will discuss,” Sangma said.
