Passing out

The passing out parade of the 40th batch basic course of the police will be held on December 20 at NEPA Parade Ground from 8am. Union Minister of State (Home Affairs) Kiren Rijiju will be the chief guest.

Competition

The Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures is organising a painting competition on the topic Christmas Crib: An Indigenous Creative Presentation. Three prize winning paintings will be awarded and displayed at the Museum. Interested participants from class VIII to XII have to submit their painting in water colour on normal chart paper to Director, Don Bosco Museum, Mawlai, Shillong, on or before January 2, 2015.

Seminar

The Department of History & Archaeology and the Department of Garo of North-Eastern Hill University, Tura Campus, will host a national seminar on ‘Coinage and Economy: Continuity and Change in Northeast India’ from December 18-20 in collaboration with the Archaeological Survey of India, New Delhi. There will be an exhibition of coins, medals and notes.

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Lady Keane College, Shillong, on Monday organized a one-day seminar on NAAC Accreditation for quality education for colleges in the North East. The workshop was inaugurated by Principal Secretary, Education, P.K. Srivastava.

Cleaning drives

A cleaning drive will be organized by the Dorbar Dong Nongrimmaw, Laitumkhrah on December 18 from 8am onwards. The cleaning drive will be inaugurated by Urban Affairs Minister & local MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh in the presence of the Rangbah Shnongs of Laitumkhrah. No vehicle will be allowed to ply towards Nongrimmaw between 8am and 12noon.

A cleaning drive will be organized at Mawiong Umjapung locality on December 18 from 9am.

Programme

The Department of Arts and Culture will organize a programme to commemorate the 74th death anniversary of noted poet U Soso Tham on December 18 at 1 pm at the U Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong.

Shillong Achik Cultural Artists’ Association will organize ‘Imbanggia’, a cultural programme on December 17 at Selsella Narangbari Playground in West Garo Hills.

DD telecast

Doordarshan Kendra Shillong will telecast live the horticulture festival cum crop seminar from Pynursla on December 16 from 10:30 am on both satellite and DTH mode and also on terrestrial mode from 12noon to 1:30pm.

Bankers’ stir

All India Bank Officers’ Confederation (AIBOC) has decided to launch a candle light march at all state capitals and major cities nationwide, as part of the ongoing agitation programmes launched to protest against the inordinate delay and adamant attitude of the Government in settlement of revised wages of bank employees. In this regard, the Shillong based affiliates of AISBOF will organize a candle light protest gathering and demonstration on the premises of State Bank of India Main Branch, Shillong, on Tuesday at 6pm.
