Taekwondo coach arrested on rape charge in Puri

Puri:A Taekwondo Coach was arrested here on charge of rape after nine orphan children and a 23-year-old girl were rescued from two illegally run homes from separate places in the city, police said here on Friday. Manmohan Bhanja, a Taekwondo Coach, was held on Thursday after three orphan boys and a girl were rescued from a rented house in Baliapanda area, deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Pravat Routray said. Police said the coach was arrested under the provisions of IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 as he was running the home in which the three orphans and the girl were staying. The girl and other orphan children were produced on Friday before the court of sub-divisional magistrate, Puri which recorded their statements. In another incident, six minor orphans including four girls were rescued by the Puri district child welfare committee with the help of police from a illegally run orphanage in a rented house in Abakash lane of the pilgrim town.(PTI)

Six booked under Gangster act in BJP leader murder case

Muzaffarnagar: Six persons who are in jail in connection with the murder of local BJP leader Omvir Singh have now been booked under Gangster Act,police said on Friday. Six accused identified as Monu Gujjar, Rahul, Gulbir, Ravinder, Mota Gujjar and another Ravinder who were arrested in the murder case have been booked under the Gangster Act too for their criminal activities, Deputy SP Mukesh Mishra said. Om Vir Singh ‘Fauji’, a retired army man who was the vice-president of BJP unit in Mirapur town, was out for a morning walk when two assailants fired multiple shots at him with country-made pistols on June 10. The accused duo had fired multiple shots at Singh, injuring him fatally. Reportedly, Singh had also fired back with his licensed revolver, injuring one of the accused but the assailants managed to snatch his gun before fleeing.(PTI)

Gujarat youth held for kidnapping minor

Shirdi (Mah):A youth from Gujarat was arrested here for allegedly luring a minor girl to marry him and then harassing her, police said on Friday. Ravinder Ramesh Thakur (21), from Kapadvanj town in Gujarat’s Kheda district, allegedly lured the 16-year-old girl residing there to marry him and brought her to Shirdi on November 12. He stayed with her at a hotel on Ahmednagar-Manmad road near here for two days and then rented a room in Shirdi town, assistant sub-inspector of police V B Sharma said. During his stay at the room, Thakur used to have frequent fights in an inebriated state with the girl, he said. On Wednesday, when the youth went to a liquor bar at Rahata near Shirdi, the girl, who was standing outside, sought help of a woman and went to Rahata Police Station and lodged a complaint of physical and mental harassment against him.(PTI)

Truck driver held for rape in south Kashmir

Srinagar:Jammu and Kashmir police have arrested a driver on charges of alleged rape of a teenager girl in Pulwama district. Meanwhile, hundreds of people, mostly women, on Friday took to the streets at Wanpora village, Pulwama, demanding stern action against the driver, who allegedly kidnapped and later raped the 18-year-old girl, whose body was recovered from a water body near a railway track at Nowgam on the city outskirts on Thursday.The demonstrators alleged that the girl went missing after she allegedly boarded the truck in Kakpora area on November 26.(UNI)
