Special recruitment drive in armed forces for youth from the region
SHILLONG: In a move that could go a long way in removing aberrations about the North East, the history of the region could soon find a place in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) syllabus.
Informing this here after inaugurating the Golden Jubilee Building of Synod College on Friday, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju said that the Centre will ensure that a chapter on the history of the North Eastern Region is included in the CBSE syllabus.
“We are going to ensure that the CBSE (syllabus) includes a chapter on the history of the region probably from the next academic session,” Rijiju said.
Rijiju also informed that there is a proposal to put in place an “exclusive recruitment policy” for the youth of the region in the armed forces and Delhi Police.
“The Union Government wants the visibility of the youth from the region in the various forces. This recruitment drive exclusively for the youth of the region will take place shortly,” Rijiju said.
Expressing concern over the incidents of crime against students of the region in various parts of the country Rijiju said, “As a Minister who is dealing with this issue, I used to receive messages on a daily basis about the incidents against our youth. I always feel dejected when I hear about such things.”
However, to reassure the students from the region, the Union Minister of State said that he is ready with a policy asking the Union Home Ministry to issue a directive and advisory to the various States to take special care of the safety of the people from the region.
“All police stations in the country should have a committee which has people from the Northeast (if any residing in the area) as members,” Rijiju said adding that the police should take immediate action on any incident of crime against people from the region.
“Policemen who fail to take action in such cases will be prosecuted,” he said while informing that a series of steps are being taken to ensure the safety and security of the people from the region.
Lamenting that youth from the region prefer to remain in their own frontiers, Rijiju said that there is a need to create vibrancy in the North East so as to enable the youngsters to move forward and explore possibilities that suit their abilities.
The Union Minister of State also congratulated Synod College for reaching the Golden Jubilee milestone and said that the college has made huge contributions to the development of education in the State.
