Collapse of drainage system at Don Bosco Square

SHILLONG: The CSWO on Saturday lodged a complaint with the police over the alleged sub-standard construction of the culvert of the drainage system at Don Bosco Square, Laitumkhrah.

“The drainage construction at Don Bosco, which was done haphazardly a year back, literally collapsed on Friday afternoon. This sub-standard construction has resulted in wastage of lakhs of rupees of public money besides putting people’s life in danger,” CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing stated in the complaint.

She also demanded that immediate action be taken against the concerned contractor, for such poor construction which could have led to accidents and loss of life.

Kharshiing added that there should be an inquiry if the contractor has any past experience in such work. “We would appreciate if an inquiry is also made into the construction supervision work, the engineer who has supervised the construction and book him/ her as per the law for corruption and negligence of duty,” Kharshiing said.

She also said that the department concerned should also provide relevant records and plans of this construction and all DPR should be provided to the investigating officer to find out the flaws in the construction.

The CSWO president also suggested that the department concerned should have filed an FIR immediately after the collapse and should conduct a thorough investigation into this matter.
